Why I build hospice software

I build hospice software because I’ve been working with hospice agencies in IT for over a decade and I have an understanding of what they need.

IT work puts you close to how an agency really runs. You see the systems staff depend on, the calls that have to go through at any hour, and the workarounds people build when a tool doesn’t fit the job in front of them.

The gaps are rarely in the EMR, which does its job. They are in the work around it: keeping contact lists current, knowing who is covering tonight, keeping a volunteer program organized and ready to report on. That work matters to patients and families, and too often it runs on spreadsheets, binders and one person’s memory.

Hospice Apps is my answer to those gaps: focused tools that each do one job for hospice agencies, and do it well.

Why hospice

Why focused tools, and why hospice.

General tools can be bent to fit a hospice, but hospice work has its own shape. Coverage runs around the clock. Volunteers are part of how care is delivered. The records behind that work may need to be shown to leadership, funders or a surveyor.

A tool built around that shape needs less setup, less training and fewer workarounds. That is why each app does one job instead of trying to be a platform, and why hospice agencies are who the apps are designed around first. Some of them suit neighboring kinds of care too, but hospice comes first.

Agencies first

New work starts from problems hospice agencies describe, not from a checklist of features.

No patient data

Neither app has patient fields or anywhere to attach a patient, so patient care stays in your EMR, and the apps work beside it.

Honest security

Nothing to install

Both are web apps that work on a phone, tablet or computer, on the devices your team already has.

Growing one tool at a time

New apps aren’t announced before they exist. Each one has to earn its place by solving a problem hospice agencies actually have, and the two apps that exist today keep improving from the same source: what agencies tell us.
